Managing Diabetes For Busy People

By: Morgan Mathers

Diagnosis of diabetes is occurring at phenomenal rates in the United States today. Diabetes could be considered an epidemic. It is sad to learn that many in the U.S. don't even know that they are at risk for diabetes or pre diabetes. You may have diabetes and not know it or be in jeopardy of getting it and not know it either. Adult onset diabetes is called Type II diabetes. You should do whatever you can to prevent this from happening. At the very least managing diabetes should be your objective.

Measuring the levels of your blood sugar after a fasting glucose blood test is used for diagnosis and to determine if you are at risk or have diabetes. An elevated blood sugar of 126/140 mg/dl for two or more consecutive blood tests after fasting is an indication that you are a diabetic or pre-diabetic and should seek immediate medical treatment. A normal blood sugar level is 70 to 110 mg/dl on a regular basis.

Why does Type II Diabetes occur? It occurs in mostly in fat people, but not always, and who do not take physical care of themselves. Also Type II occurs in older people. A person may have a first line relative that has diabetes so heredity weighs in too.

Making lifestyle changes like exercising for 20 minutes a day, and controlling your diet may be all a person needs to do to control blood sugar levels. For Type II diabetes treatment always get regular blood tests so that you can manage your progress. You do not want to be at risk! If you think you are at risk then get looked at by a physician. Managing diabetes and preventing it should be a major concern.

Stay informed! Visit your doctor regularly and always request a fasting blood test. Also your local pharmacist can help keep you knowledgeable about the latest and greatest products and services. Regular blood tests in a clinical situation are recommended, as well as some of the hand held home testing devices offered today. From time to time some community centers, drug stores or grocery stores offer blood glucose level tests for free.

As we know being overweight can cause a myriad of different problems. Diabetes is just one of them. Having weight reduction surgery could be a factor if you are a diabetes or pre diabetes. Post surgical patients have reported normal blood sugar levels in 80 of 100 cases.

There are some homeopathic alternatives to consider as well like vitamins and supplements. Be warned though that any home treatments should be in combination with your doctor.

Avoiding and controlling diabetes is all about blood sugar control. That is the trick. The million dollar question is how can you do this effectively on an on going basis and still live a productive and rewarding life.
