Information About Face Lifts

By: Kenya Hegwood

Laser facelifts are popular among those who don't feel a need for going under the surgeon's knife. If the areas at issue are fine lines and wrinkles, then a laser facelift is a great alternative to a facelift surgery.

The remarkable thing about laser resurfacing (laser facelift) is that it can be done over the whole face and/or concentrated in the areas that you need it most - usually around the mouth and eyes. The laser uses carbon dioxide to resurface your facial skin in less than an hour. Unlike a chemical peel, this type of treatment can be targeted, bleeding is minimal or there is none, and you will heal quickly.

While this type of "facelift" does not actually lift the face, it does improve your skin's appearance and give you a healthier glow because the older layers are removed to reveal the younger looking skin beneath. This does not prevent the signs of aging and it cannot take away every flaw.

You Need to Know:

Laser resurfacing is not for people with dark skin and is not recommended for those with oily or problem skin.

Laser facelifts do not offer the same results as conventional facelifts. It does not rid you of fat under the skin or sagging.

You will have some tenderness and areas of discoloration for a few days.

If done improperly, there can be adverse effects such as permanent skin damage.

There is another kind of laser treatment that does not resurface, but instead tightens the skin by heating up the collagen underneath, making it a "pseudo-facelift". This type of lift has no recovery time - you can go on with your day after having it done.

Both types of laser facelifts can be used along with a conventional lift - the skin is lifted with surgery, the laser resurfacing minimizes wrinkles, and the skin is tightened by heating collagen.
