Diet Control Is The Key To Weight Control!

By: Dane Masters

Time was when you were much admired for your slim and trim figure! Today, people look at your belly first before they look at your face! This losing battle of the bulge is giving you nightmares. And you decide to take up a weight loss diet. It is advisable to get advice from those who are already on such diets. But do not be put off by the diverse views that are presented to you. There will be those who try their level best to persuade you not to go in for such fanciful stuff--it has not worked for them; where is the guarantee that it will work for you? Yet others promise miraculous results if you only follow the same diet that they are following. Whatever the case may be, if you are serious about getting back a more balanced body, go in for a weight loss diet--a good one!
Over the years, weight loss diets have become an industry in their own right. If one were to track the genesis of weight loss diets, the seventies would be a great place to start. For this is when the first of the weight loss diets made an appearance. Decades of stable economy coupled with an increased earning capacity and standard of living gave most Americans the traditional symbol of prosperity - an expanding midriff. And for those who were image conscious, the very first weight loss diets were created. Since weight loss diets were concocted mostly at home, and included instructions on what not to eat rather than what to eat, the industry (if you can call it that) was not very successful.
You must remember that this was an age when food, diets and nutrition had still to become key areas with qualified professionals offering advice. Typically, it was the lady of the house who was supposed to keep a check on the bulge around her man's midriff and she did this by doing away with or slowly but steadily eliminating known weight gaining foods. Nutrition and balanced weight loss diets were still unknown as yet.
Moving on to the early eighties, a change took place during this time. There was more awareness concerning diet and weight control. So even governmental organizations and health experts began to give serious thought to the issue of obesity and its consequences. Surveys were conducted and research statistics were put up, causing serious concern to all Americans. Every fourth Americans was discovered to be clinically obese! This was enough for weight loss diets to gain prominence and healthcare experts to set up clinics regarding weight control. All sorts of fads were indulged in, including--the Atkins diet promoting consumption of meat but avoidance of carbohydrates and starch; strict vegetarian diets; shunning every type of foodstuff that would cause weight gain; ingestion of fresh vegetables and fruits. This was also the time when scientific methods concerning weight loss were promoted. Weight loss diets did not just advocate the types of food to consume and what to avoid; they also counseled dieters regarding calories, analysis of body fat and the benefits of having lean muscles with no extra fat on them.
Being clinically obese, I too experimented with several weight loss diets in the hope that they would whack me into shape. But the truth of the matter is that no weight loss diet, no matter how extreme, will ever work without a healthy dose of exercise. Sitting on the couch, not eating may help you lose weight, but ti will surely leave you weakened and unhealthy. But an effective weight loss diet coupled with regular, calorie-burning exercise will do wonders for your metabolism.
